• Review of "A Horse's Friend" at Pittsford

  I was able to come here through my brother's waiver services. It was referred to as the "horse program." I was extremely excited to do this, as my past experience with horses had been nothing but a delight. My mind was very quickly changed when I met the man who runs this program. Instead of an enjoyable experience, what I felt was a boatload of anxiety and depression. The way he runs things feels incredibly stressful for the kids and adults in the environment. Don't expect any sympathy from the guy either, I'm almost entirely convinced he doesn't have any. I have never felt so unsafe or excluded in my entire life. I had gallstones and was sick one day, and I was accused of "getting sick just because we weren't riding" that day. The rules there are so uptight that they suck the fun out of everything. One rule I really hate; no petting the horses. What is that? I wanted to lend my help. There's nothing I love more than being around horses and helping them, but this place has honestly ruined that for me a bit. So I'd like to warn whoever is reading this. Just stay away from "A Horse's Friend" Save your time and sanity.

• Review of "Lehman Farms" at Pittsford

  I've ridden at Lehman Farms for two years now with the RIT equestrian team. I love the people here - Gail is such a riot. I ride with Ellie and she definitely knows what she's doing. Not only is she younger and easier to relate to, but she is also knows everything about almost every lesson horse the barn has. When she's not teaching lessons she's riding them and training the new horses. The barn is always kept clean and swept and all the tack and grooming supplies are always kept in place. They do have a couple riders working there as extra hands, but for the most part they know what they're doing and if they don't they'll ask one of the trainers. I would definitely recommend riding at Lehman's.
